There are rare motorcycles, and then there are motorcycles that represent a milestone in a company’s history.

This is a 2015 Janus Phoenix 250 carrying VIN 0000—the only pre-production Janus that has ever been made available to the public.

Unlike the earlier hand-built prototypes, this motorcycle was the first production-intent Phoenix built from the final tooling before regular production began. It was a legitimate titled motorcycle, not simply a prototype, making it historically significant within the Janus story.

To my knowledge, this is the only opportunity collectors have ever had to own a pre-production Janus. Production bike #1 is historically important—but this motorcycle predates it.

The bike is identified as JM-P01 on the front fender number plate and has appeared throughout Janus history. It has been featured in promotional photography, videos, marketing materials, and was used extensively during Janus Discovery Days and demo events. Thousands of enthusiasts have seen this motorcycle over the years, and many have ridden it. It is one of the most recognizable Phoenix motorcycles Janus has ever built.

Today it has 1,486 original miles and has recently received a comprehensive mechanical refresh while preserving its historical character.

One of the things I wanted to preserve was the motorcycle’s originality. Much of the bike remains exactly as it left the Janus shop, including:

• Original finish and appearance
• Original tires
• Original character and patina appropriate to its history

Overall, I would conservatively rate the motorcycle a 9/10 cosmetically. Everything functions as it should.
